Mark L. Baughman, 50, of 7180 Hardin Drive, Russells Point, was charged with disorderly conduct as a result of an incident Saturday evening.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched about 6:35 p.m. to the area of Township Road 56 and County Road 37 in reference to a suspicious person and vehicle. A passerby had reported observing a woman in muddy clothing walking northbound along T.R. 56 while being followed by a vehicle.
Deputies located a vehicle parked in the Harrod Cemetery. Baughman was sitting inside the vehicle with the window down. The vehicle was not running and Baughman was not in possession of the ignition key for the vehicle, deputies noted.
While speaking with the defendant, deputies observed that he displayed signs of intoxication. A half full bottle of liquor also was observed in the vehicle.
Baughman began berating deputies and was placed under arrest. While inside the patrol cruiser, deputies said he began banging his head against the window. He was transported to the Logan County Jail.
Deputies asked Baughman about the woman who had reportedly been walking by his vehicle. He told them it was his girlfriend and that she got out of the vehicle on Troy Road.
She was located by deputies in the area of T.R. 56 and was transported back home, along with the couple’s dog. She said the couple had a verbal argument and that she was not injured.
Open container summons issued
Zane W. Robinson, 21, of 417 Colton Ave., Bellefontaine, was issued a summons for open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle as a result of a traffic stop about 11:35 a.m. Saturday.
Deputies on patrol in the area of State Route 540 between Township Road 230 and County Road 25 observed his vehicle commit a speed violation and initiated the stop.
He told deputies had been drinking alcohol the previous evening and had stopped drinking around 6:30 a.m. Deputies and troopers of the Ohio State Highway Patrol conducted field sobriety tests for the defendant. He also was cited for speed and driving under non-compliance suspension.
No injuries reported in 5-vehicle crash
Mario A. Hernandez-Martinez, 34, of St. Paris, was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead as a result of a five-vehicle chain reaction crash with no reported injuries about 12:25 a.m. Sunday.
Deputies report Hernandez-Martinez was operating a car on State Route 347 County Road 144 when he struck the rear of a car operated by Matthew J. Frashier, 25, of Huntsville. The impact of the crash sent Frashier’s vehicle into a car operated by David W. Blue, 37, of Hillard,
A car operated by Desyre R. Phillips, 19, of Bellefontaine, slowed to avoid striking the other vehicles and was struck from behind by a car operated by Joshua Kenton, 28, of Dublin, Ohio, who had attempted to change lanes to also avoid striking the other vehicles.
Each of the drivers were wearing their seat belts, deputies said.
