Officers of the Washington Township Police Department responded about 3:50 p.m. to the parking lot of Woody’s, 7838 State Route 366, Russells Point, to speak with Jeremiah Herzog, 41, of Wapakoneta. He said his vehicle was struck by a black jeep in the parking lot, and the suspect vehicle then left the scene.
Upon further investigation, officers learned that the driver of the jeep, Mr. Umphress, had been in an altercation with Timothy Allen, 56, of 11360 Poplar St., Lakeview, in the parking lot that afternoon.
Mr. Allen told officers that Mr. Umphress had made threats to Mr. Allen’s wife that day, and allegedly had followed her as well.
Mr. Allen said he confronted the defendant about his actions, and reported that Mr. Umphress brandished a box cutter while speaking with him. The suspect then allegedly attempted to run over Mr. Allen with his vehicle in the parking lot area, and also struck Mr. Herzog’s vehicle.
The defendant was located at his residence in Ada by officers of the Ada Police Department. He was placed under arrest and lodged in the Logan County Jail.
