A 19-year-old city man was arrested for persistent disorderly conduct after stepping in front of cars Monday afternoon near 100 E. Watson Way.
An officer of the Bellefontaine Police Department responded to the area and located Austin M.L. Mustain, 19, of 309 E. Columbus Ave., Apt. 4, and his girlfriend Krysta Lyon, 18, of the same address, arguing behind Logan County Job and Family Services, 211 E. Columbus Ave.
A deputy of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office working at the Logan County Court Center attempted to stop Mr. Mustain, but he reportedly ignored the deputy’s instructions.
He continued to argue with police officers and was taken into custody.
Intoxicated motorists charged
Christopher Beasley, 18, of 501 Albert St., Bellefontaine, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle, endangering children and underage consumption following a traffic stop about 9:30 p.m. Nov. 8.
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department observed his vehicle in the area of Whispering Pines Avenue near east Glen Drive, and noted that his minivan matched the description of the vehicle that a missing 15-year-old girl from Champaign County was believed to be riding in.
Officers initiated a traffic stop, and located the missing teen, Azaria I. Wright of Urbana, who was a passenger in the vehicle.
A strong odor of alcohol was observed inside the vehicle, and the driver, Mr. Beasley submitted to field sobriety tests. He admitted to consuming alcohol that evening. At the police department, he submitted to a breath alcohol content test, with readings of 0.150 and 0.144. He was then released to a family member.
Azaria was taken into custody by deputies of the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office.
• Melissa S. Roebuck, 35, of 214 N. State St., Belle Center, was arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs after an 11:30 p.m. Friday traffic stop in the 200 block of east Auburn Avenue.
An officer on patrol noticed the vehicle appeared to be traveling northbound above the posted 25 mph speed limit in the 300 block of south Main Street and began following the driver, who made a wide right turn at the intersection of Auburn Avenue.
During the traffic stop, the officer noticed the driver was slurring her words and appeared to be intoxicated. The officer administered field sobriety tests, but Ms. Roebuck refused a breath test.
She was arrested on the OVI charge and issued citations for speeding and failure to drive in marked lanes.
• Mark D. Johns, 49, of 695 N. Troy Road, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs after a 1:26 a.m. Saturday traffic stop near the intersection of Troy Road and Garfield Avenue.
An officer patrolling in the 1100 block of south Main Street saw the driver leave the 68 Grill and noticed him commit several marked lanes violations and an improper turn while following northbound. Mr. Johns pulled over in the parking lot of Shafer’s Towing, 401 N. Troy Road, where officers noticed signs of impairment.
He reportedly admitted to drinking rum, but refused to perform field sobriety tests or take a breath test. Officers also issued citations for failure to drive in marked lanes and making an improper turn.
• A couple was charged after officers found them passed out while investigating a report of a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of T-P Lanes, 300 E. Lake Ave., on Saturday afternoon.
Officers were unable to get the driver and her passenger to respond, so they forced entry into the vehicle. The couple began awakening as paramedics with the Bellefontaine Fire and EMS Department responded.
They identified the woman in the driver’s seat as Lori Jo Bailey, 36, of 226 N. Madriver St., and the passenger as Tom R. Bush, 38, of 136 N. Detroit St. Both said they believed it was still Friday.
They were sent to Mary Rutan Hospital for evaluation. After her release, Ms. Bailey was arrested for having physical control of a motor vehicle while impaired and gave a breath test that returned a 0.226 blood alcohol content.
Both were also charged with public intoxication.
• Two men were charged with having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle after a 12:10 a.m. Monday after officers responded to a noise complaint at one of the men’s 116 W. Chilllicothe Ave. home.
When they arrived, officers found Gregory A. Reed, 54, of that address, and Theodore N. Davie, 60, of 5314 County Road 50, Ridgeway, drinking beers inside a pickup truck at the residence.
They determined the men had not been driving the truck and issued the men open container citations.
• Jonathan S.L. Cole, 19, of 202 Shady Lane Drive, was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and underage consumption of alcohol after a 4:13 a.m. Saturday report of a suspicious person near the Grand Rental Station warehouse at 115 W. Buckingham Ave.
Officers approached the vehicle and identified Mr. Cole, who admitted he was an employee of the business and had stopped there to smoke marijuana in the parking lot. They located a small amount of marijuana, a pipe, hemostats and a flask containing whiskey.
He was issued summonses for the misdemeanor crimes.
Unlawful restraint, domestic violence charges filed
Don A. Zimmerman, 50, of 1108 Park Road, Bellefontaine, was charged with domestic violence and unlawful restraint following an incident Saturday morning at his residence.
Officers responded about 7 a.m. to his address and spoke with Mr. Zimmerman, who officers observed had a laceration on his lip. He said he and his wife, Dana, had been arguing that day and that she allegedly struck him in the face.
Dana told officers that her husband had blocked her from leaving the bathroom that morning. She said he screamed and cursed at her and hit her in the face. He allegedly pushed on her chest and she couldn’t breathe, and she struck his face during the struggle, she said.
She attempted to grab a phone to call 911, but said her husband took the phone from her. After a physical struggle outside, she eventually was able to go to a neighbor’s house to call for help.
Officers observed she had injuries to her mouth and a scrape on her finger. Mr. Zimmerman was arrested and transported to the jail.
• William L. Johnson, 49, of 624 N. Detroit St., Bellefontaine, was charged with a parole violation and was lodged in the jail following an incident Friday evening at 410 N. Detroit St.
Officers responded to the residence about 8:50 p.m. on a complaint regarding an intoxicated man who was causing problems and was refusing to leave.
Officers located the intoxicated man, Mr. Johnson, hiding in the basement area of the home. He was placed under arrest.
Masked thieves hit drive-through
Three masked thieves walked into a local drive-through business and fled with a 12-pack of beer, two cans of chewing tobacco and two bags of tortilla chips before fleeing on foot.
Employees of Bernie’s Drive Thru, 829 N. Main St., reported the incident happened at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday.
Officers searched the area, but did not see the individuals, who the store employee believed to be men. No weapons were displayed and the employee was not accosted or threatened during the theft.
