James E. Shannon Jr., 22, of Columbus, was charged Monday with aggravated menacing and improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle.
At 7:45 p.m., officers were called to the 400 block of Clagg Street.
Witnesses told officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department he was in the middle of the roadway arguing with his girlfriend outside his sport utility vehicle. A resident told Shannon to get in his SUV and leave. The suspect allegedly went to the driver’s door, pulled out a tan semi-automatic pistol, racked the slide and pointed it at the resident.
Shannon then entered the vehicle and drove off, leaving his girlfriend behind. Alaria Robinson of Columbus provided some information to officers about the suspect but was not very forthcoming with other details of the brandishing incident.
Officers began patrolling the area and located Shannon on Garfield Avenue near Lawrence Street.
They found the 9mm pistol had been disassembled by the suspect and he had stashed components in his left front pants pocket, the center console of the SUV and in a black bag.
He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
Motorist faces fourth OVI charge
Megan C. Lowry, 33, of 1316 Woodglen Circle, was charged Monday with felony counts of operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
At 11:10 a.m., officers were informed Lowry was extremely intoxicated and becoming aggressive towards her mother, Patricia Serie.
Serie met with officers and told them Lowry left the residence in a sport utility vehicle, most likely to buy more alcohol. Officers then began patrolling the area to locate Lowry.
She was spotted eastbound on Sandusky Avenue turning south on Lakewood Drive. An officer pursued her and observed her driving at a high rate of speed and ignoring stop signs.
The pursuit ended at Lowry’s residence where she was observed exiting the SUV.
Officers detected an odor of alcohol while talking with Lowry and noted she was swaying side to side as she stood and her speech was slurred.
An initial field sobriety test indicated to officers the motorist was too intoxicated to continue with more tests. She was taken into custody and and transported to Mary Rutan Hospital for a blood sample.
Officers obtained a warrant for a blood sample as this was Lowry’s fourth OVI arrest within 10 years. After the sample was collected, Lowry was lodged in jail.
The motorist was issued traffic citations for two counts of driving under suspension and single counts for stop sign violations and not using a turn signal.
