Around 75 government and business leaders from Logan and Union counties heard again today about the fast pace development of smart highway technology in the region at the Logan County Community Improvement Corporation’s annual meeting.
This year’s event was hosted at the recently opened welcome center at Transportation Research Center Inc.
Eric Phillips, who heads up the Union County Chamber of Commerce and is active in the NW 33 Council of Governments, said that the 35-mile smart highway corridor from Dublin to TRC in East Liberty was not envisioned in 2014 when Marysville, Dublin and several townships began to meet about planned development along U.S. Route 33.
What started as land use planning grew into fiber optic network development, he said.
Those foundational stones placed the region in a perfect position to host development of the world’s longest corridor of autonomous highway, which burst forth about 18 months ago.
