COLUMBUS — Logan County has been accepted into the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission, an association for 60 local governments in Central Ohio that provides guidance on economic development and public policy matters.
MORPC has been working with the 33 Smart Corridor Project.
Logan County’s inclusion with MORPC opens the way for the organization to help write grants for federal money to extend the corridor across the county.
Current work on the corridor does not extend past the Transportation Research Center near East Liberty.
The corridor is part of smart highway research in Ohio and will provide the longest stretch of connected highway in the world when complete.
The application is due in June.
MORPC membership costs the county about $12,000 a year to expand the community’s development potential while providing another resource for the Logan-Union-Champaign Regional Planning Commission, townships and the Logan County Community Improvement Corporation.
The county’s membership will provide the opportunity for two representatives to serve as voting members at MORPC board meetings.
“We are delighted to become an important part of the vision and work of MORPC and their quest for great economic development in Central Ohio,” Logan County Commissioner Joe Antram said.
