Changes are taking shape at the Logan County Art Center. Currently home to the Holland Theatre Box Office, Windmill Productions and LoCo Art, the Art Center is welcoming the Logan County Art League as the center’s newest member.
The Art Center is located at 127 E. Columbus Ave., Bellefontaine, in space owned by the Holland Theatre. Previous member Mad River Theater Works recently relocated its headquarters to Yellow Springs.
Established in 1954, the Art League is a nonprofit supporting the visual arts in Logan County. The group currently sponsors art shows, workshops, open studios, retreats, and the popular Not So Bad Art by Good People contest that invites the community to vote on artwork created by local “celebrities.”
Meetings are conducted on the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m.; membership is open to any interested artist or supporter of the visual arts.
“We are delighted to be working with the Art League,” said Holland Theatre Board Chair Kris Swisher. “They have a long history of enriching the community and supporting artists here in Logan County.”
This is not the first time the Holland Theatre and the Art League have collaborated: From 2000 to 2018, the Art League used part of what is now the Art Center as a gallery.
There are no plans to re-open the gallery. Member artists now display their work in several local sites, including Mary Rutan Hospital and the Hilliker YMCA.
“I would like to invite all artists and art lovers to join us on the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m. Come see what we are all about,” said Nancy Funderburgh, Art League president.
Other current Art League officers are Karen Feltham, vice president; Annie King, treasurer; and Pat Mitchell, secretary. For more about the Art League, including upcoming events and workshops, go to logancountyartleague.org.
