A total of 19 youths from Logan County toured the Center For Automotive Research at The Ohio State University in Columbus through a trip offered by the Logan County Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Logan County Collaborative Group.
CAR is home to the Buckeye Bullet organization that has been creating electric land speed cars for more than 15 years. The team is currently developing and racing the Venturi Buckeye Bullet 3, which is designed to set a world record of more than 400 mph.
Local testing of the Buckeye Bullet takes place at the Transportation Research Center in East Libertybut the vehicle is designed to race on the Bonneville Salt Flats of Utah.
The purpose of the tour with students from Bellefontaine, Ben Logan, Indian Lake, Calvary Christian, Ohio Hi-Point Career Center and West Liberty-Salem was to get area high school students excited about careers in engineering and manufacturing.
The student-led projects cover all areas of design, fabrication, implementation and testing for materials to be used in the Buckeye Bullet and many other commercial applications.
