Veterans, active service members and community members are invited to the Bellefontaine City Cemetery, 632 E. Brown Ave., at noon Saturday, Dec. 18, for a wreath-laying ceremony to commemorate National Wreaths Across America Day.
The ceremony takes place in the cemetery location of the Memorial Day Observance, by the American flag near the Allison Road entrance to the cemetery.
Coordinated and led by local volunteers, they will be placing eight ceremonial wreaths in honor of our fallen service members laid to rest there.
The local observance joins more than 2,700 locations across the country for National Wreaths Across America Day.
This annual event seeks to further the Wreaths Across America mission of “Remember, Honor, Teach,” ensuring that the memory of those who served our country endures.
Wreaths Across America is a 501c3 non-profit organization founded to continue and expand the annual wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery begun by Maine businessman Morrill Worcester in 1992.
The organization’s mission is carried out in part each year by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies in December at Arlington, as well as at more than 2,700 veterans’ cemeteries and other locations in all 50 states and overseas.
