Additional Washington Township Police Department levy garners wide support
Full-time, first-shift patrol in and around Washington Township is ensured following passage Tuesday of an additional levy supporting the police department.
A five-year 1-mill replacement levy with a 1- mill increase for Washington Township Police Department passed 509-298, according to unofficial results from the Logan County Board of Elections.
Guaranteed response time during the school day was the primary need for the levy, Chief Rick Core said.
“We’re very grateful for the support of the community,” Chief Core said.
“Passing this levy allows us to continue to provide quality police services for the community, and I’d like to think this support from the community is a reflection of the services we provide.”

Rural service-safety, operating levies decided
Most service-safety issues, and local operating renewal levies from rural villages and townships were approved by voters Tuesday.
But an additional five-year, 1.5-mills operating levy in Bokescreek Township was rejected by voters by an unofficial tally of 262 to 204. Voters in Bokescreek Township and in the village of West Mansfield did combine to approve a five-year, 2-mill renewal levy for fire and EMS protection, 320 to 122. That levy generates $46,000 per year.
A five-year, 3-mills replacement levy with a .75-mills increase for fire and EMS in Zane Township was approved 286 to 191. In all, that levy provides $189,000 for first responder protection.
