McDONALD |
A city police dispatcher and volunteer EMT killed in an ambulance crash near Ridgeway was memorialized on a national monument this weekend.
Krista McDonald, who worked as a Bellefontaine Police Department dispatcher and volunteered with the Southeastern Hardin County Ambulance District, was honored at the National EMS Memorial Services in Oxon Hill, Md.
She died from injuries in an Oct. 14 crash while returning from the scene of an Amish buggy crash. The ambulance was southbound on State Route 292 when it was struck broadside by a vehicle that failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of State Route 273. Fellow EMT Peggy Eastman was also seriously injured but has recovered.
McDonald’s husband, Ted, and mother, Kathy Ansley, were in a second ambulance following just seconds behind the one that was struck and witnessed the crash as it occurred, the Kenton Times reported.
The family members were escorted to the Saturday ceremony in Maryland by fellow EMT Nick Newland.
In addition to the national honor, the family members were honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Lima Memorial EMS Banquet on Monday night.
