Ohioans are gambling more this year than in 2015, and that uptick in players pressing their luck results in an increase in tax receipts distributed to the county government and schools.
Logan County collected more than $270,000 in casino tax revenues through June of this year, and local schools combined to receive more than $200,300, according to updated data from the Ohio Department of Taxation.
The county collected $141,887.61 in casino tax receipts for the period between Jan. 1 and March 31, and another $130,180.80 between April through June 30, according to the report.
Casino tax receipts are trending slightly ahead of last year, when Logan County collected about $534,000 from taxes imposed on casinos in Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Toledo.
In all, Ohio’s 88 counties have combined to receive approximately $69 million in casino tax receipts so far in 2016.
