The start of the season has not been smooth for West Liberty-Salem’s boys basketball team. A dramatic come-from-behind win over Indian Lake on Tuesday may be exactly what the Tigers need to get on track.

“This is what we have been looking for,” said WL-Salem head coach Darrin Leichty after he saw his team overcome an eight-point fourth-quarter deficit to grab a 40-36 win over the host Lakers. “There was some excitement. The cohesion was better tonight than it has been. This is really big for us.”
The Tigers, who went 21-4 and advanced to the sectional finals last year, dropped three of their first five games.
But they showed flashes Tuesday of the grit and aggressiveness they played with a season ago.
“Give them credit,” said Indian Lake head coach David Starr. “In the end, they fought a little harder than we did. Their best players stepped up and won the game for them.”
