Larry F. Gibbs, 67, of rural Bellefontaine, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 30, 2022, at his residence
Larry was born in Bellefontaine on July 11, 1955 to the late Dewitt “Dick” and Virginia “Ginny” Gibbs. He graduated from Benjamin Logan High School in 1973. Just four days after his 18th Birthday on July 15, 1973, he married the love of his life Deborah Thurman Gibbs and she preceded him in death on September 5, 2001.
Larry started his working career as a small engine mechanic at the family business, Gibbs Sales and Service in both Bellefontaine and Milford Center. When the implement business faltered in the mid 1980’s he found his next career in Security working at several security companies. He found his home at TRC as a security guard earning the nick name “Gatehouse Larry” until in the middle of the COVID pandemic they broke his heart and let him go on the day of his 30th anniversary. His spirit broken, he opted to just retire instead of fighting the wrongful termination.
His Sons Micheal T Gibbs and Ryan W (Nancy) Gibbs of Rushsylvania remain to morn his passing, along with his grandchildren Rhylie and Aiden; step grandchildren Ashley, Alyssa, and Lexi. Larry’s brother Terry L Gibbs proceeded him in death.
Larry’s warped sense of humor, sarcasm and long rambling stories will be missed by his family and we are sure he is entertaining the heavenly family in pure Gatehouse Larry style.
He was a member of the Rushsylvania Lions Club and an ardent supporter of Lions Clubs International Foundation’s mission of community service.
The Family will receive friends at the Rushsylvania Lions Club community room across from the post office in Rushsylvania from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, October 7, with a celebration of life service led by Darlene Roll at noon. There will be a Michael Angelo’s pizza party afterward for those in attendance.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Rushsylvania Lions Club, P.O. Box 175, Rushsylvania, Oh 43347, or to www.LCIF.org.
