Indian Lake routs Clermont NE for its first district title
Indian Lake softball’s impressive tournament run officially continued Monday after the Lakers capped off a 15-1 win in five innings over Clermont Northeastern in a Division III district championship game at Lebanon Junior High School.
It is the program’s first district championship.
“Winning the district and doing something that no other softball team at Indian Lake has done is an amazing feeling,” said IL head coach Skip Oliver. “It’s hard to describe, between graduations, exams and last-minute projects due for class, I’m not sure the girls have had the time to think about what they have accomplished.”
The Lakers were ahead of the Rockets 15-1 in the top of the fourth inning with two outs Friday when the game was stopped because of rain.
It resumed Monday and the Lakers quickly wrapped up the district championship. It took just eight minutes for the Lakers to secure themselves a spot in the regional tournament.
“The second ride back (to Lebanon) was long and the girls were tired to say the least,” said Oliver. “We knew what we had to do and we needed to finish this.
