Julia “Judy” Mae (Hites) Ferguson, 91, of Huntsville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 25, 2020, at home surrounded by her family. COVID was not involved.
Judy (aka “Dude”) was born in Belle Center, on Nov. 1, 1928, a daughter of the late Harley and Clara (Hatcher) Hites. She was also preceded in death by her husband Bob Ferguson in 2016; a great grandson Kaleb; seven sisters, Elsey, Curley, Martha, Milly, Freda, Phyllis, and Ann; and two brothers, Willis and Andrew.
Judy is survived by her son Brad and his life partner Christine Jackson; adopted son, Dean Ferguson and his ex-wife Kim Ferguson; eight grandchildren, Tanaya, Cindy, Erich, Stacie, Tiffany, Jacob (fiancé Danielle Laws) who lived with and took care of Judy for the last 3 1/2 years, Christian (Amber), and Cheyenne Ferguson; seven great grandchildren, Skylar, Peyton, Raya, Ryder, Leland, Lucas, and Cassius; and two sisters, Maxine and Joyce.
In her younger years, Judy worked at G.C. Murphy for several years. She stopped working when her son Brad was born to raise the family, including 15 stepchildren. When the nest was empty, she worked at Logan Acres 10 years as a morning cook before retiring. She loved to cook, bake and quilt. Judy was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church for many years and helped with ice cream socials. She will be missed by all who knew her.
A special thanks to Jacob Ferguson and his fiancé Danielle Laws for living with Judy the last 3 1/2 years and taking great care of her, and lovingly being with her when she took her last breath.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 30, at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 321 N. Main St., Bellefontaine, where a memorial service will begin at 7:30 p.m. with Pastor Kristen Lawson officiating. Burial will be in Huntsville Cemetery in Huntsville at a later date.
