John Lewis Bodey, 86, of Urbana, passed away Monday, May 7, 2018, in Springfield Regional Medical Center.
He was born March 31, 1932, in Champaign County, a son of the late Paul and Anna Kizer Bodey.
John attended Concord High School before he left town and proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He loved building and fixing anything, and was vice president of Bodey and Sons Inc., where he was able to do just that. John was a devout member of the Urbana Church of Christ in Christian Union, but most of all, John’s greatest enjoyment was spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 65 years, Deloris Lewis Bodey; his daughter, Tonya (David) Wampler of Venice, Fla.; his son, Todd (Terrie) Bodey of Springfield; his grandchildren, Lauren Joy (Jonathan) Varner, Tyler David Wampler and Tori Renae Wampler; great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Carson and Zachary Varner; and several nieces and nephews.
He also was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles, Richard and Russell Bodey.
Calling is from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 11, in the Vernon Funeral Home, Urbana. Funeral services begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 12, in the Church of Christ in Christian Union, 1121 N. Main St., Urbana, with Pastor Mike Grable officiating. Burial follows in Honeycreek Cemetery, St. Paris.
