John David Swingley, 79, of West Liberty, passed away peacefully in his sleep Thursday, June 15, 2017.
He was born July 12, 1937, in Clinton County, to Thomas and Beulah Swingley.
John was a graduate of Wilmington College. After graduation, John moved to Urbana, where he met and married his wife, the former Phyllis Channell. They were married Dec. 6, 1963.
John was a 19-year Honda of America Mfg. employee until his retirement in 2000.
He was proceeded in death by his parents and his son, David Thomas Swingley, as well as his stepson, Ronnie Kleiber.
John leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Phyllis Channell Swingley; his son, Duane (Jennifer) Swingley of Bellefontaine; four grandchildren, David T. Swingley, Hunter W. Swingley, Ethan W. Swingley and Delayne M. Swingley; his sisters, Brenda (John) Vergne of New Vienna, Kathy Everett of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Sharon (Richard) Riley of Wilmington; as well as stepchildren, Connie Rausch of Marysville, Robert Kleiber of Plain City and Michael Kleiber of Milford Center.
John had an avid love of antique tractors and farm equipment. He will be forever missed and deeply loved by all who knew him.
A celebration of life is planned for 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, July 15, at the West Liberty Lions Club Park, West Liberty.
