John D. Richter, 63, of Huntsville, passed away unexpectedly, Friday, March 8, 2019, in the emergency department of Mary Rutan Hospital, Bellefontaine.
John was born on March 8, 1956, in Lima, a son of the late Robert L. and Marilyn A. Frysinger Richter.
John is survived by the love of his life, Rae McCarty; three children, Laura (Garry White) Orren of Columbus, Nathan (Hailey) Richter of New England, N.D., and Ingrid Grass; two grandchildren who knew him as Captain John, Gunnar and Greta, and soon to be grandson, Deiter Richter; his sister, Susan D. (Dan) Comer of Bellefontaine; three brothers, Joseph (Gayle) Richter of Trubuco Canyon, Calif., Robert C. (Cindy) Richter of Lakeview and Paul A. (Erica) Richter of Huntsville; and several nieces and nephews.
John was a 1974 graduate of Indian Lake High School. He was a member of Indian Lake Moose Lodge 1533, and Indian Lake Eagles Aerie 3615. He worked at Ohio Lumber Brick and Block. John had a strong work ethic. He was a “Jack of All Trades” and master of some.
He loved working in construction and construction materials. He was a master woodworker, carpenter, cabinet maker and gourmet chef. He enjoyed boating on Indian Lake, playing cards when someone was willing to play him, and helping others. His last act of kindness was as an organ and tissue donor.
A private celebration of John’s life will take place at a later date to honor his wishes of “not making a fuss.”
Arrangements are in the care of Shoffstall Funeral Home, Lakeview.
