Janice Rae Hanson, 71, of Bellefontaine, passed away unexpectedly, Saturday, July 18, 2020, at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital, Columbus.
Janice was born on Aug. 20, 1948 in Bellefontaine, a daughter of the late Raymond and Irene Skaggs Herford. She married Charles Ronald Hanson on Feb. 17, 1973 at Gretna Brethren Church and he preceded her in death on Dec. 18, 2016. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Kathryn Jacobs, a brother, Richard Herford, and a half-sister, Carol Bishop.
Janice is survived by three children, Charles Ryan (Tonja) Hanson of Rushsylvania, Carl Raymond (Laramie) Hanson, Randy Lee (Tina) Hanson, both of Bellefontaine, four grandchildren, Emma Jean Hanson, Levi Raymond Hanson, Layden Carl Hanson and Charles Jace Hanson, three siblings, Eugene (Jodi) Herford, Cecil Herford and Donna (Eric) Dahlke, special best friends, Shirley Brunke and Bonnie Bell, and several nieces and nephews.
Janice was a 1966 graduate of Indian Lake High School and 1968 graduated from Weaver Airline School. She worked at Super Foods for eight years and was a USPS rural carrier for 24 years before retiring. She was a member of Gretna Brethren Church and Mother of Twins Club. Janice’s various interests included collecting shot glasses and Coca-Cola items, learning Judo, skydiving, reading, working puzzles, cooking, baking, photography, telling jokes and making people laugh, and eating at Red Lobster with friends. She enjoyed teaching Bible School and Sunday School. Janice was a devoted mother and grandmother, who adored her sons, and grandchildren, attending their activities and spoiling them.
Funeral services will begin 11 a.m. Friday, July 24, at Shoffstall Funeral Home, 205 S. Main St., Lakeview. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 23, and Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial is in Huntsville Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given in her name to Wounded Warriors Foundation.
