Janice M. Quay, 82, of West Liberty and formerly of Belle Center, passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon March 11, 2018, at Green Hills Care Center.
Janice was born in Lima on Oct. 7, 1935, to the late Cyrus Emery and Thelma Louise Ritter Johnston.
Janice was also preceded in death by a daughter, Diana Brunner on Jan. 21, 2014; a grandson, Matthew Wolf; brothers-in-law, Tom McNutt and Bernie Sutterfield; and sisters-in-law and their spouses, Daisy and Ed Kindell and Penny and Stu Adams.
Janice is survived by her husband, Robert G. Quay, whom she married June 5, 1955, at the Belle Center United Presbyterian Church. She is also survived by children, Debbie (Paul) Claassen of Bellefontaine and Doug (Julie) Quay of Rushsylvania; son-in-law, David Brunner of Belle Center; nine grandchildren, Josh (Maggie) Wolf, Jenae (Dustin) Brewer, Sarah (Larry) Stirling, Natalie Claassen, Alicia (Cliff) Pickering, Brian (Shannon) Quay and Devyn, Drake and Denay Brunner; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joan McNutt of Hilliard and Jean (Dave) Rose of Belle Center; sister-in-law, Rose Gunckel of Verona; brother-in-law, Paul (Clara) Quay of Belle Center; sister-in-law, Kris Sutterfield of Bellefontaine; a special friend at Green Hills, Doris Leib; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Janice was a 1953 graduate of Belle Center High School and obtained her bachelor’s degree in education from Ohio Northern University and her master’s degree from Wright State University. She retired after 37 years, having taught at Belle Center, Indian Lake and Benjamin Logan school systems. Janice and her husband started the current eighth-grade trips to Washington, D.C., while teaching at Belle Center and they continued upon consolidation with Benjamin Logan. Janice enjoyed collecting Tumble Ups and Scottie Dog creamers. She loved spending time with her family and taking trips with her grandchildren.
She was a member of the Belle Center United Presbyterian Church where she was an elder, a choir member and former head of the vacation bible school program.
Calling is from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, at Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, Belle Center. Pastor Kevin Lawler officiates the funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 15, at the Belle Center United Presbyterian Church, 202 Walnut St., Belle Center. Burial will be at a later date in Fairview Cemetery, Belle Center.
