James P. “Jim” Everhardt, 77, of Lafayette, died at 4:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 19, 2016, at Lima Memorial Health System, Lima.
He was born in May 1939 in Lakeview to the late William Edgar and Fern Minnie Pierce Everhardt.
On Aug. 24, 1956, he married Eileen Marie Bradford and she survives.
He retired as a painter from Aerco Sandblasting in Lima and was a member of the Sager Masonic Lodge 513 F&AM of Lafayette, the Lima Shriner Club and Fraternal Order of Eagles Post 370 in Lima. He was a former member of the Antioch A.A.O.N.M.S. of Dayton and the Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton.
Jim loved restoring classic cars, woodworking, going to the cabin in Pomeroy, and going out weekly with the “Gang.” He was an avid wine maker. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Also surviving are a son, Jim E. (Sheila) Everhardt of Lafayette; two daughters, Melody R. (Greg) Vermillion of Ada and Lisa Ann (Patrick) Long of Lafayette; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren on the way; one brother, Jack Everhardt of Cartersville, Ga.; and two sisters, Yvonne Newland of Lady Lake, Fla., and Sandy DeHart of Logan.
He also was preceded in death by one grandson, Kyle Long; three brothers, William Everhardt, John “Bud” Everhardt and Robert Everhardt; and three sisters, Janice Klingler, Mary Ann Rathburn and Violet Wilson.
Funeral services begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home in Ada, where calling is from 2 to 4 and from 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a Masonic memorial service beginning at 8 p.m. conducted by Sager Masonic Lodge 513 F&AM of Lafayette.
Pastor Charles Moeller officiates and burial is in Lafayette Cemetery, Lafayette.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Allen County Special Olympics, the American Heart Association and the Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation.
