An “Iron Man Blood Drive, Part II” hosted Wednesday in honor of West Liberty resident Scott Boyd exceeded expectations, meeting 112 percent of the goal.
Community Blood Center representatives report that 64 donors attended the blood drive at Green Hills Community, including 12 first-time donors, and a total of 56 donations were received.
Mr. Boyd was critically injured Aug. 12 when he was caught in the blades of his bush hog while mowing a pasture. He suffered a “shark bite” wound to his side that shattered his hip and damaged his ribs and internal organs, as reported in previous Examiner articles.
He was treated at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, where he underwent multiple surgeries over the next 39 hours and received 108 units of blood, plasma and platelets. He is now recovering at home, but he must have at least two more surgeries to replace his shattered hip.
