Indian Lake’s boys basketball team traveled across state lines over the weekend and competed in The Shootout at the Big House at the Charleston Civic Center in Charleston, W.Va.
The Lakers defeated Raleigh Liberty 54-45 during the three-day event to improve their record to 13-7.
Indian Lake head coach David Starr, who is from West Virginia, was invited to take his team to the event by the West Virginia Coaches Association.
“It was a great experience for our players and parents,” said Starr. “We were very excited to go out of state, get a victory and represent the Indian Lake community.
“It was nice to give our players an opportunity to play in such a great arena. We are planning on making this trip again next year.”
Liberty took a 10-7 lead after the opening quarter, but Indian Lake came storming back with a 15-9 run in the second quarter. That put the Lakers ahead 22-19 at halftime.
Indian Lake continued to build on its lead in the third quarter with a 20-14 effort. That pushed the Lakers out to a 42-33 advantage. Liberty and Indian Lake were even in the fourth quarter at 12-12 to allow the Lakers to secure the win.
Beau Hefner paced the Lakers with 23 points, Collin Coburn had nine points and nine rebounds, Alex Jacobs tallied eight points with five rebounds, five assists and three steals and Troy Carter added eight points.
Indian Lake travels to Graham on Friday for Central Buckeye Conference Mad River division action.
