A Huntsville area man was named in an indictment Tuesday for shooting a neighbor’s Great Pyrenees dog.
Ned R. Buchenroth, 69, of 1946 W. County Road 37, Huntsville, was charged by a Logan County grand jury with one count of prohibitions concerning companion animals, a felony of the fifth-degree.
It is the first time felony charges have been handed up by a grand jury in the county under the state law.
On May 3, deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office met with Buchenroth who told them he shot the dog with a rifle after it came onto his property and began chasing his cats. He said the dog had injured his cats in the past.
Robin L. Brandewie, of 4994 Township Road 238, Huntsville, who reported the dog had gotten out overnight, said the dog was used to protect livestock from coyotes and did not chase cats or animals on the farm.
