Riverside’s girls basketball team chased down host Houston, but could not catch the Wildcats on Tuesday as the Pirates fell 42-36 in a non-league contest.
The Pirates slip to 6-7.
Houston outscored Riverside 13-9 in the opening quarter and 17-11 in the second quarter for a 30-20 halftime lead.
Riverside trailed by nine (36-27) after three quarters. The Pirates outscored the Wildcats 9-6 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough.
Lauryn Sanford led Riverside in scoring with 13 points. Olivia Perk had 10 points with seven rebounds and Amber Waters had eight points and 11 rebounds.
In junior varsity action, Riverside edged Houston 26-20. Alaina Heath and Rachel Knight led the Pirates with seven points apiece and Trinity Notestine had six points.
Riverside travels to Waynesfield-Goshen on Thursday for Northwest Central Conference play.
