An employee was charged with inducing panic Friday after he reportedly perched himself atop a production press at the Honda of America’s Marysville Auto Plant, 24000 Honda Parkway, Marysville, causing a disturbance that necessitated temporary suspension of production at the facility.
Max W. Arnold, 30, of Marysville, reportedly ran from deputies of the Union County Sheriff’s Office who had responded to the auto plant about 2:45 p.m. to serve the suspect with a felony indictment handed up in July by a Union County grand jury for rape and sexual battery. He reportedly grabbed a fire axe and climbed approximately 30 feet to the top of a production press and threatened deputies.
Additional deputies, crisis negotiators, the Allen Township Fire Department and a special response unit from the Marysville Police Department also responded to the scene.
The suspect refused to relinquish the axe and threatened self-harm, deputies said. At approximately 7 p.m. “special response team members approached the suspect and subdued him,” according to information from the Union County Sheriff’s Office.
He was charged with inducing panic and lodged in Tri-County Jail.
Operations reportedly resumed at the plant about 8:15 p.m. Friday.
