LOGAN |
A Kettering woman sustained severe injuries to her arm early Saturday morning after she reportedly was struck by a drunk driver while she was walking along Township Road 293.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office arrested the hit-skip driver, Charles R. Logan, 49, of 11307 Chickasaw Path, Lakeview, a short time later. He is facing a number of charges, including felony counts of aggravated vehicular assault, operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and failure to stop after an accident.
The pedestrian, Alexandria M. Harrell, 26, reportedly was transported by Indian Lake EMS to Lima Memorial Hospital for treatment of her injuries, which were believed to be non-life threatening, Sheriff Randall J. Dodds said.
Deputies report Logan was operating a southbound vehicle on T.R. 293 just north of Lake Drive in Lakeview about 1 a.m. when he struck Harrell, who was walking southbound along the edge of the road.
Logan reportedly failed to stop after the crash, but a deputy working security at nearby Froggy’s at the Lake, 11065 T.R. 293, began investigating the incident, and another deputy responded to the area in a second cruiser.
The suspect’s vehicle was apprehended shortly after he turned onto State Route 235 from T.R. 293.
Deputies said the defendant was cooperative with them, but they noticed his speech was slurred and he showed other signs of intoxication. He told deputies he had consumed between 6 to 12 beers that day.
The passenger side mirror was hanging off the vehicle and the passenger side of the windshield was shattered. Deputies also observed human hair and tissue in the windshield.
When asked about the damage to the vehicle, Logan said a rock had hit his windshield. He denied hitting a pedestrian, stating he would have “stopped to apologize” if he had.
The defendant refused to take field sobriety tests, and at the Logan County Jail, he tested 0.154 for a blood alcohol content test.
Deputies report the defendant has six prior OVI convictions, including a prior felony OVI, and also has a suspended license.
He also was served a warrant for failure to appear, and was charged with failure to pay child support and a probation violation and was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
