URBANA — A trooper from the Springfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol was arrested recently on felony charges including rape and sexual battery.
The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office charged John Mcleod, 40, of Marysville, Friday with two counts of rape, two counts of sexual battery, and one count of aggravated trafficking in drugs.
Mcleod was placed on leave without pay pending the investigation.
He has been a trooper since 2013, and previously received “meets expectations” on each of his yearly reviews.
Last year, Mcleod failed a random drug screening and tested positive for marijuana.
He previously was transferred to Columbus and served as a plainclothes investigator for about a year, and returned to the Springfield Post in January.
He is scheduled to appear in court Thursday morning. His bond was set at $40,000.
