Cody Brown displays a Helpful Hugs Bag, an outreach project coordinated by the Logan County Board of Developmental Disabilities with help from the American Heritage Girl Scout Troop 1613 for individuals after receiving their second COVID-19 vaccination who might be a little under the weather. The bags include items like cold compresses for arm pain, a washcloth for cooling a fever, protein snacks for a quick and easy way to keep energy levels, granola bars for an easy snack if not feeling well, chapsticks for dry lips after a fever, sugar-free mints to help with nausea, hand sanitizer to continue to keep hands sanitized, Gatorade for any electrolyte imbalances, a thermometer to check temperature, and tissues for runny noses. “After learning that some people’s immune systems react to the second COVID vaccine, we purchased items that would help comfort people through the next few days after the vaccine administration,” LCBDD employee Kelli Bader said. “Board of DD Nurse Deb Shotts put together easy to read information about possible immune system reaction symptoms for us to include.” Troop 1613 put the bags together and delivered them to the LCBDD office for distribution. Logan County Special Olympics Rose Canter and Bader took turns handing the bags out to people as they left the Logan County Health District. (LOGAN COUNTY BOARD OF DD PHOTO)
