Helen “Fran” Frances Griffin, 86, of Belle Center, passed away at 2:33 p.m. Saturday, May 13, 2017, at her home.
She was born in Belle Center on Aug. 30, 1930, to the late John and Edith Mearns McClure. A brother, Sam McClure, also preceded Fran in death.
She is survived by her daughters, Karen S. Griffin of New Haven, Conn., and Linda R. Griffin of Belle Center; a grandson, Sean Allen of San Francisco, Calif.; a brother, John McClure of Las Vegas; and several nieces and nephews.
Fran was a member of the Belle Center Reformed Presbyterian Church. She graduated from Belle Center High School and went on to receive her bachelor’s fegree from Geneva College in Pennsylvania. After graduating she continued her education and received her master’s degree and PhD at The Ohio State University and the University of Pittsburgh. Fran did research for Yale University and UNC Chapel Hill. At the University of North Carolina she developed their Oncology Department. Fran was very interested in health and nutrition.
All who loved her will miss her.
A graveside service begins at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 26, at Fairview Cemetery, Belle Center, in the committal building. A gathering of friends will take place prior to the graveside service from 10 to 10:30 a.m. at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, 306 N. Elizabeth St., Belle Center.
