Harold G. Coy, 89, of Milford Center, died Tuesday evening, April 4, 2017, at his home with his loving family by his side.
He retired at age 55 as a maintenance supervisor for Rockwell, formerly North American Aviation. A graduate of Belle Center High School, he left a month before graduation to enlist in the U.S. Navy where he served for 17 years during which time he saw action in WWII and the Korean Conflict.
Harold and his family moved to Milford Center in 1972. A dedicated and loving family man, he was very involved in the activities of all of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A well-traveled person, Harold had been on every continent except for Africa. Along with his wife, Blanche, they travelled throughout all 50 states, and spent two months in Alaska. In later years, he became a member of the Cardinal LOWS, and travelled with their caravans out west looking for old ghost towns and abandoned mines. He also spent his winters in Florida at Florilow Oaks, where he made many lifelong friends.
He loved to dance, and in his earlier years he attended the Arthur Murray School of Dance. He was an avid domino player and played at the Windsor Senior Center every Wednesday and Friday after lunch. He loved to give “two cheek hugs” and always had a great sense of humor which showed throughout his exceptional storytelling. Harold will be greatly missed, especially by his family and many friends he made throughout his years of travel.
Harold was born Sept. 21, 1927, in Richmondale to the late David Otto and Charity Ethel Quincel Coy. He married the former Blanche Yelton on Oct. 22, 1955. She preceded him in death Sept. 4, 1992. He was also preceded in death by a great-grandson, Keagan Burton; two sisters, Bernadette “Bernie” Noe and E. Bonadine “Bonnie” Carroll; and a brother, Quinten Coy.
He is survived by his children, Jon (Patty) Coy and Toni (Steve) Halterman, both of Milford Center; grandchildren, Cindy (Scott Spicer) Coy, Erica (Mark George) Coy, Jessica (Travis) Burrey, Damion Coy, Brian Halterman and Jenny (Roy) Burton; great-grandchildren, Cameron Beem, Tyler Beem, Carson Burrey, Conner Nicol, Kason Burton, Logan Burrey and Drake Clark; his twin brother, Howard D. (Betty) Coy; a sister-in-law, Thelma Coy; and many nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.
