A Clark County-based volunteer organization is willing to work with local residents and city officials to address feral cat concerns.
Its members just want Bellefontaine’s blessing.
Phyllis Monroe with Cat Alliance Located in Central Ohio TNR said the organization uses volunteer time and donations to handle trap, neuter or spay and return projects.
The city can help by endorsing the idea and educating residents about the idea, she said, during today’s morning meeting of the Bellefontaine City Council Rules Committee.
Committee members met to discuss open feeding of feral cats, backyard chickens and feeding wild animals, specifically deer.
“I didn’t come here this morning expecting we would come to a resolution on these issues,” Service-Safety Director James Holycross said. “But I felt we had to start the discussions.”
Turning to Ms. Monroe and other TNR supporters, Mr. Holycross, an owner of three cats, said, “I really appreciate your efforts to be here.”
CALICO TNR is not incorporated as a non-profit organization, but it funnels donations through the non-profit His Hands Extended Sanctuary out of St. Paris.
One city resident, Jean Minnick, publicly pledged $2,000 toward a TNR project in the city.
