Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report a Huntsville area man was killed after falling from his golf cart on Seminole Island early Saturday morning.
James W. Moore, 39, was pronounced dead at Mary Rutan Hospital as a result of the accident that occurred around 1:15 a.m. in the 9900 block of Buckeye Drive.
Moore reportedly was operating a southbound golf cart in the roadway when he fell from the golf cart, landing in the middle of the road.
Moore’s passenger, Derek D. Pentenburg, 33, of Lewis Center, told deputies he thought they had hit a bump or something in the road prior to Moore falling off of the golf cart. The passenger said he was able to get the golf cart stopped and then rushed to check on Moore, who had sustained heavy bleeding to his face, and the passenger called 911.
Pentenburg also said a passerby stopped to assist in providing life-saving measures to Moore.
Moore was transported by Indian Lake EMS to the hospital. Lakeview Fire Department also responded to the scene.
Deputies said alcohol is suspected as a factor in the crash.
This is the seventh fatal crash in Logan County this year.
