Bellefontaine Middle School teachers Jordan Reser, Cheryl Poppel, Nicole Winover and Sandi Chervenak attended a TECHFIT training at Purdue University in July to prepare for a new afterschool program at BMS this school year that will teach students how to create exergames — exercise games with a technology focus. The local teachers were part of a group of 14 educators who attended the training, which stands for Teaching Engineering Concepts to Harness Future Innovators and Technologists, with the goal of increasing student interest in technology fields while offering an outlet for fitness. The exergames combine a knowledge of engineering design, computer programming and automation, according to a release from Purdue University. The BMS program has established a Twitter page, @chieftain_go. (PHOTO | BELLEFONTAINE CITYSCHOOL)
