Gerald “Jerry” H. Platfoot, 76, of Jackson Center, passed away Friday, November 26, 2021 at 8:35 at his home.
He was born on May 22, 1945 in Newport, Ohio, the son of the late Robert and Ursula (Schlater) Platfoot.
On November 5, 1966 Jerry married Linda (Eilerman) who survives. The two just celebrated 55 years of marriage. Also surviving are 5 children, Lisa (Quentin) Reese of Jackson Center, Dave (Rita) Platfoot, and Kathy (Alan) Luthman both of Anna, Kelly (Marc) Wells of Swanton, and Jason (April) Platfoot of Jackson Center; 15 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; 6 siblings, Marlene (Earl) Siegrist of Coldwater, Tom (Diane) Platfoot of Springboro, Jo (Dick) Bergman of New Bremen, Theresa Zimpfer of Anna, George (Linda) Platfoot of Anna, and Frank (Cindy) Platfoot of Jackson Center, and sister-in-law, Neede Platfoot of Minster.
He was preceded in death by brother, Ronnie Platfoot, brother-in-law, Tom Zimpfer, and granddaughter, Lindsey Platfoot. Mr. Platfoot worked as a machinist for Monarch Machine in Sidney.
He also farmed 200 acres for many years and was a bus driver for Indian Lake “His favorite Job.” He served as a Bloomfield Township Trustee, and later worked for 19 years at the Anna Honda Engine Plant as an equipment serviceman.
Jerry enjoyed playing cards, tooling around on his gator looking at his trees, boating at Indian Lake, and wintering in Gulf Shores, AL. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan. He loved his family, especially his grandkids and the stories they told. Jerry was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and Moose International. He and his wife where previous members of St. Mary’s of the Woods Catholic Church in Russells Point and presently attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in McCartyville.
Upon Jerry’s request, there will be no viewing at this time. A Memorial Mass will be at Sacred Heart at a later date so all family members can be present. Arrangements are in the care of Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home. Condolences may be expressed to the Platfoot family at www.cromesfh.com.
