Chieftains swat Hornets
The Bellefontaine Chieftains, coming off a 10-point loss to Coldwater, rebounded in Week 3 with a big win over visiting Licking Heights 28-13 on Friday night in AcuSport Stadium.
“I’m really proud of the kids in the way they responded after last week,” said Chieftain head coach Jason Brown. “You know we scheduled these two games (Coldwater and Licking Heights) back-to-back, two really quality opponents, both tough good teams, and the lessons we learned last week paid off this week.”
Once again, Bellefontaine leaned on running back Chris Fogan, and its physical offensive line to control the football game.
Fogan carried the ball 32 times for 210 yards and two touchdowns on the night.
Bellefontaine finished with 405 total yards, compared to 286 for the Hornets.
Pirates get physical, shut out Lakers 24-0
Riverside decided to get physical and simplify its offensive approach in an effort to find some success after an 0-2 start to the season.
That decision work out well Friday night as the host Pirates rolled up 323 rushing yards and held Indian Lake to 118 total yards in a 24-0 victory.
Riverside is now 1-2, while the Lakers remain winless at 0-3.
“We wanted to come out and pound the rock,” said Riverside head coach Bryce Hodge. “We are down three linemen, but it has been the next man up, and the guys did a heck of a job up front tonight.”
Senior running back Warren Shockey ran for 227 yards and two touchdowns on 34 carries and quarterback Myles Platfoot added 85 yards and a touchdown on 14 rushes.
Raiders can’t catch Cougars, fall 37-35
For the second straight game, Benjamin Logan came up just short in a tight battle Friday night.
The Raiders saw a second-half lead slip away in a 37-35 loss to visiting Kenton Ridge.
Ben Logan, which lost by one point to West Liberty-Salem last week, falls to 1-2 on the season.
The Cougars are now 2-1.
Ben Logan lost despite outgaining the Cougars 384-264 in total yards.
The Raiders put up 355 passing yards, but mustered just 24 rushing yards on 29 attempts.
Catholic Central edges Tigers in double OT
A week ago, West Liberty-Salem’s football team saw things go its way late in the game to pull out a win.
On Friday, the Tigers came out on other end of the stick.
Visiting Springfield Catholic Central pulled out a 33-26 win over the Tigers in double overtime.
SCC is now 3-0 on the season and the Tigers slip to 1-2.
After a scoreless first overtime period, SCC scored on a 1-yard touchdown run by Cole Ray on the first possession of the second OT. The extra-point kick gave the Irish a seven-point lead.
