Fredrick J. Meredith, 98, of Bellefontaine was welcomed into the loving embrace of his heavenly Father on Thursday, April 18, 2024.
He was born in Bellefontaine, OH on June 17, 1925 to the late Emery and Hazel (Hullinger) Meredith.
On March 7, 1946, he married the former Ruth Kindell and she proceeded him in death, by only 11 days, on April 7, 2024. He is also proceeded in death by a daughter Kay Ann Meredith, brother and sister-in-law Emery “Lewie” (Nan) Meredith, a son-in-law Ed Wallace, a nephew, niece and honorary family member, Kathy Ramsey.
He leaves behind two daughters: Cathy Wallace and Theda (Mike) Moore; four grandsons: Nicholas (Angie) Wallace, Brandon (Bethany) Moore, Darick (Paige) Moore, Matthew (Brandee) Moore; 10 great grandchildren: Allie, Nate, Laney, Cooper, Emma, Hudson, Harper, Luci, Oliver and Theo; a niece and honorary family member Rick Ramsey.
Fred was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having dropped out of school to serve during WWII, including the Normandy Beach invasion. He served as a Captain of the Ohio Defense Corp (ODC). He later earned his GED. He was an active member of the First Christian Church in Bellefontaine where he was a member of the Pilot Class, and served as a Deacon, a member of the Bellefontaine Masonic Lodge #209, he had a private pilot license which was a childhood dream of his. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, mushroom hunting, collecting coins, watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren in sporting events and musical performances, watching OSU Buckeyes no matter what sport, mowing his lawn, and lending a helping hand to whoever needed it.
Fred was employed at A J Miller Co. as an upholsterer, Knowlton Construction Co. as a heavy equipment operator, Carter Steel and then retired from Acrux Investigation Agency as a Captain.
Rev. Kevin Greenwald along with Fred’s grandson, Nick Wallace will officiate a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 321 N. Main Street, Bellefontaine. Visitation will be one hour prior from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Bellefontaine Cemetery at a later date.
