Fredrick B. Brewster, 95, of Bellefontaine, went home to his Lord and Savior at 8:53 a.m. Friday, Feb. 16, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born Aug. 13, 1922, in Spencerville, Ind., a son of the late Fredrick Emerson and Nellie Bricker Brewster. On Aug. 13, 1944, he married Doreen Alice Woods in London, England, and she preceded him in death Feb. 3, 2012.
He is survived by two sons, Peter T. Brewster of Zanesfield and Michael (Terry) Brewster of Russells Point; five grandchildren, Keith (Tiffany) Brewster of Maumee, Gretchen (Shaff) Gorham and Holly Morris, both of Bellefontaine, Ivy Blythe of Russells Point and Kendra (Jim) Campbell of Zanesfield; five great-grandchildren; four great-stepgrandchildren; and a brother, Darrel Brewster of Missouri.
He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Weber; and three sisters, Esther Miller, Alberta Heffelfinger and Audrey Bell.
Mr. Brewster was a World War II U. S. Navy veteran. After the war, he went to barber school in Columbus and then started Brewster Barber Shop in Bellefontaine. During this time he re-enlisted into the U.S. Navy Reserve, and retired from the Navy in 1984. Being very civic-minded, he was elected to the 4th Ward City Council and later became the safety-service director in Bellefontaine.
The church was very important to Mr. Brewster, and so he helped build Calvary Baptist Church along Rush Avenue and several other churches in the area. He was a member of the Gretna Brethren Church where he enjoyed fellowship and singing and he also sang in a local quartet.
Funeral services begin at noon Wednesday, Feb. 21, at Gretna Brethren Church, 1564 Township Road 46, Bellefontaine, where the family will receive friends beginningat 10 .m. The Rev. Rob Starnes officiates. Burial follows in Bellefontaine Cemetery where military rites will be observed.
