Arrows outlast Chiefs in wild homecoming clash
Bellefontaine made its share of big plays Friday in its homecoming game against Tecumseh. Unfortunately for BHS, the Arrows made even more.
The Chiefs trailed by 15 points with 4:31 left, but they perfectly executed a pair of onside kicks to mount a dramatic late rally that saw them pull within a point with 1:58 remaining.
However, the Arrows were able to hang on for a 35-34 victory on the final night of Central Buckeye Conference Kenton Trail division play.
Bellefontaine drops to 2-4 overall and wraps up KT action with a 1-4 league record. Tecumseh moves to 3-3, 2-3.
“We made a lot of plays to give ourselves a chance, but we just didn’t make enough of them,” said Bellefontaine head coach Jason Brown. “We made some mistakes and hurt ourselves a couple of times and that falls on me.
“The effort and toughness was there. Give the kids a ton of credit for making those plays that put us in a position to win the game.”
Long sets school record as Pirates zap Bears 34-26
Senior Kale Long had a record-setting night for Riverside’s football team as the Pirates defeated host Hardin Northern 34-26 on Friday in a Northwest Central Conference finale.
The Pirates finish the regular season at 5-1 overall. They end up in second place in the NWCC Lane division. The Polar Bears finish with a 3-3 record.
“It definitely was a great way to finish off the regular season,” said RHS head coach Bryce Hodge. “It was nice to beat a Hardin Northern team that has beaten us the past two years. We’re ready to get going and focus on the playoffs now.”
Riverside piled up 445 yards of total offense with most of that coming from Long, who set the Pirates’ single-game rushing record with 366 yards and five touchdowns on 31 carries.
Lakers rout Hillclimbers 34-7 in CBC Mad River finale
Indian Lake’s football team finished the regular season in style with a convincing 34-7 win over host Urbana on Friday in a Central Buckeye Conference Mad River division game.
The Lakers wrap up the regular season at 3-3 overall and 3-2 in the CBC Mad River division. The Hillclimbers end the regular season winless at 0-6, 0-5.
It was a big night for the Indian Lake offense, which piled up 382 total yards.
Quarterback Caleb Wurster completed 6-of-14 passes for 177 yards and one touchdown and he added 47 rushing yards on seven carries.
IL running back Elijah Slagle wore down the Hillclimber defense for 116 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries, while Kaleb Hurley burnt the secondary for 118 receiving yards and a score on just three catches.
WL-Salem falters as M’burg wins OHC North with 33-0 victory
West Liberty-Salem’s football team failed to slow down a talented Mechanicsburg squad Friday as the state-ranked Indians rolled to a 33-0 win and claimed the Ohio Heritage Conference North division title.
The Indians, who are ranked third in the Division VI state poll, remain unbeaten at 6-0 overall and wins the OHC North at 5-0. The Tigers fall to 3-3, 2-3.
Mechanicsburg showcased its talented offense to the tune of 456 total yards.
Raiders can’t cage Wildcats in 42-7 loss
Benjamin Logan’s football team couldn’t contain a potent North Union squad Friday as the host Wildcats ran wild for a 42-7 win in a Central Buckeye Conference Mad River division finale.
The Raiders finish the regular season at 2-4 overall and 2-3 in the CBC Mad River. The Wildcats finish 4-2 overall and second in the CBC Mad River division with a 4-1 mark.
North Union dominated the stat sheet, outgaining Ben Logan 333-136 in total yardage.
The Raiders were held to just 70 passing yards and 66 rushing yards.
