First-time grand champions emerged Monday from the Junior Fair market barrow and gilt shows.
ANNIE RAPP
Annie Rapp claimed her first purple banner in market show competition with her grand champion market gilt, “Chica Linda.” The 10-year old Indian Lake middle school student said her 276-pound gilt was named after a horse character from her favorite television show, Spirit.
Annie said after her grand championship that she was nervous during the final drive, but was “really glad” when her gilt was selected as the grand champion.
“I had to walk him a lot and keep him clean,” she said, describing how she prepared to show her animal for competition.
On the market barrow side, Georgia Bates’ project with a generic name made a big impression. Her 275-pound barrow, named “Name” was selected as the grand champion market barrow.
GEORGIA BATES
“I was very nervous in my class,” Georgia acknowledged, “and I was nervous right at the end before he picked Name, but I am very excited to win.”
