Employees reported smelling smoke shortly before 11 a.m. and found a fire near an electrical box at the rear of the building.
They safely evacuated the building and called 911, shift leader Destiny Fisher reports.
Firefighters from Bellefontaine and West Liberty fire departments arrived a short time later and contained the fire.
Assistant Chief Mark Layman confirmed the fire appeared to have originated behind the electrical panel but was hesitant to call it an electrical fire until further investigation is complete.
The restaurant is closed until further notice, Fisher said.
Bellefontaine Police Department assisted at the scene.
