Summer maintenance projects detailed
During the Monday evening meeting, the Benjamin Logan Board of Education approved the final ballot language of the tax levy it will ask voters to approve in November.
The measure, which is essentially an extension of a levy that has been on the books for about 20 years, is being called a substitution levy because it will become continuing or permanent.
“We want to remind voters this is not a new tax, it just makes it permanent,” Superintendent Dave Harmon said. “If there is new construction in the future, those additional dollars will come to the district from those entities.”
The levy will continue to raise $1.375 million, which can only change, as the superintendent noted, if or when new construction takes place. The effective millage rate as calculated by the Logan County Auditor’s Office is 3.8 mills, which would cost a property owner $133 per year per $100,000 of appraised valuation.
“These are the main things we want to hit on as we move toward November,” Harmon said.
In other discussions at the meeting, the district’s new buildings and grounds supervisor, Matt Pennington, gave an update on the busy summer of maintenance projects throughout the district.
