Recent restrictions from the pandemic challenged students and staff at Bellefontaine City School district to honor the community’s veterans in a unique way. This year, when community members drive past or walk by the practice soccer field along Lake Avenue and Ludlow Road, they will see a Field of Honor, where 525 flags are displayed through Sunday. Each flag honors a veteran from past or present and includes the veteran’s name and branch of service. Names were submitted from the school community by students, staff, and family members. Flags were organized and placed on display Tuesday with assistance from Bellefontaine Middle School students and BCS staff. Bellefontaine City Parks and Recreation supervisor Kris Myers partnered with the schools to provide lighting over the flags at night while they are displayed. (EXAMINER PHOTO | MANDY LOEHR)
