Justin C. Mentzer, 34, of 146 Sugarbush Way, Zanesfield, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest following an incident Sunday evening.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched about 9:40 p.m. to the McDonald’s of Russells Point, 431 E. Main St., in reference to a person yelling at other customers and employees in the drive-thru line.
Deputies located the suspect, Mr. Mentzer, in his vehicle just past the drive-thru window. While speaking with him, deputies noticed signs of intoxication.
He failed field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest. The defendant began resisting deputies’ efforts to secure him in handcuffs and place him in the patrol vehicle.
Deputies spoke with McDonald’s employees, who stated that the suspect had been calling them names and refused their requests to pull forward and wait for his meal. They also stated he yelled at other customers waiting in the drive thru, that he could not figure out the correct amount of money for his bill and that he appeared to be intoxicated.
Mr. Mentzer’s 8-year-old daughter also was in the vehicle with him. Deputies contacted the child’s mother and she responded to the scene to take care of the child.
The defendant was transported to the Logan County Jail.
• Thomas E. Cotterman, 41, of 121 Warren Ave., Russells Point, was charged with OVI following a traffic stop about 3:15 a.m. Sunday.
Deputies had observed his vehicle in the area of U.S. Route 33 and Township Road 239 and initiated the traffic stop after he reportedly failed to use appropriate turn signals twice.
During the traffic stop, deputies observed signs of intoxication, and Mr. Cotterman failed field sobriety tests. He was placed under arrest and transported to the jail.
At the jail, he submitted to a blood alcohol content test and tested 0.184, and was booked into the Logan County Jail. The defendant has two prior OVI convictions.
He also was cited for two counts of failure to use turn signals.
