Christopher R. Ward, 43, of Sierra Madre, Calif., was charged Tuesday with deception to obtain a dangerous drug.
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department report he tried to fill a prescription for drugs containing codeine and oxycodone at Kroger Pharmacy, 2129 S. Main St., around 2:40 p.m.
He tried to fill prescription for his mother who died Monday.
He told officers hospital officials in Columbus gave him a kit for disposing of his mother’s prescriptions and he was under the impression he needed to fill the prescriptions as part of that process.
