Woman charged with OVI, child endangering
Whitney N. Mansker, 29, of 516 Willow Drive, Bellefontaine, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and child endangering during a traffic stop Thursday evening, Feb. 22.
Deputies on patrol about 8:35 p.m. along south Main Street in Lakeview observed a northbound vehicle driving its high beam headlights and said as the vehicle approached the patrol car, the operator failed to dim the headlights.
Then deputies observed the vehicle run a red light at the intersection of east Lake Street and U.S. Route 33 and nearly causing an accident.
A traffic stop was initiated near Harrison Street and while speaking with the driver, deputies observed a strong odor of alcohol and other signs of impairment. Deputies said a child also was seated in the back seat of the vehicle.
Deputies noticed a can of Twisted Tea on the floorboard of the vehicle and questioned her about it. She told deputies she’d had several of the alcoholic beverages since about 4 p.m. that day.
Mansker submitted to field sobriety testing and she refused to take a breath test. The child was released to a family member.
The defendant also was cited for expired operator’s license, failure to dim, traffic control devices and open container in a motor vehicle.
