Evan M. Regan, 25, of 184 S. Main St., Ridgeway, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and resisting arrest following a non-injury crash about 11:30 p.m. Thursday.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report he was operating an eastbound 2008 Volkswagon Jetta on County Road 51 near State Route 638 when he traveled off the right side of the road. The car then completed a U-turn and continued westbound on C.R. 51.
The vehicle then went off the right side of the road, striking a ditch. Damage was moderate to the car, which was towed from the scene.
When deputies arrived on the scene, they said Regan was standing outside of the vehicle and was unsteady on his feet. He told deputies he had been out drinking with another individual that day and that other person had been driving. Regan said the driver walked away from the scene, but deputies said they did not see any other footprints in the area.
The defendant also would not provide deputies with the name of the supposed driver or where he lived. He refused to submit to field sobriety tests at the scene.
Deputies placed Regan under arrest and while attempting to place him inside the cruiser, he allegedly lunged toward one of the deputies, stating he wanted to “headbutt” the deputy. He continued to resist deputies’ efforts to place him in the cruiser and did not stop until deputies informed him they would use OC spray if he did not stay in the cruiser.
En route to the Logan County Jail, the defendant made verbal threats against deputies. At the jail, he had to be forcibly removed from the cruiser by corrections staff and he was placed in the restraint chair.
Deputies noted Regan had prior OVI convictions in 2017 and 2018.
