Earl M. Parker, 42, of 13955 Blue Jacket Path, Lakeview, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and was cited for failure to comply with the signal/order of a police officer during a traffic stop Saturday evening.
Deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop with his vehicle in the area of Eagle Path and Chickasaw Path about 6:50 p.m. after observing suspicious behavior from the driver. Despite the deputy activating the cruiser’s overhead lights and also utilizing the cruiser’s air horn, the driver made a turn onto Oneida Path and then started driving toward Blue Jacket Path, maintaining a speed of 20 to 25 mph, deputies said. The vehicle finally came to a stop in a driveway, which deputies soon learned was Parker’s residence.
While speaking with Parker, deputies observed that he displayed signs of intoxication, and an open can of beer was found in his vehicle. He admitted to consuming between five to six beers.
The defendant submitted to field sobriety tests, and at the Logan County Jail, he refused to take a breath test. Deputies report he has three prior OVI charges from 1992, 1996 and 2003.
He also was issued a citation for failure to properly display license plates and open container.
