Douglas Allen Voss of Wooster, OH passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2021.
Doug was born February 1, 1945 in Bellefontaine, OH to Earl and June (VanCamp) Voss. He was the oldest of four children. Surviving are his three sisters, Ann (Steve) Grinch, Terry Voss, and Linda Voss. He loved to share stories of his childhood, the many adventures of family camping trips, and spending time at the train yard watching the steam engines roll through.
Doug graduated in 1963 from Benjamin Logan High School where he was well known for his love of music and Edsels.
After high school, he attended Ohio Technical College earning a degree in Electrical Engineering. While working towards his degree, he worked serving lunches at OSU where he flirted with his future wife, Connie, by serving her extra mashed potatoes. They were later married on August 5, 1967
Doug then moved to St. Louis where he worked for McDonnel Douglas. During his time there, he invented a new design for an ejection seat that was used on the F4 Phantom Jet and also used later at NASA. Upon returning to Ohio he worked in the construction industry as a project manager before going on to work for the State of Ohio as a State Architect’s Representative. In addition to his professional endeavors, Doug was a dedicated Sunday school teacher at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wooster, and a school bus driver for Wooster City Schools.
Doug was a person who could fix anything and was passionate about his hobbies including refurbishing antique radios and cars, as well as making the best chocolate chip cookies and homemade coffee ice-cream.
In addition to his sisters, Doug is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Connie Voss, his four children, Soni (Andy) Ware, Wendy (Wally) Bowers, Jayme (Mike) Johnson, and Randy (Rachel) Voss. His 10 Grandchildren, Nick and Ashley Ware, Madeline and Alex Bowers, Trevor and Annalise (Dakota Blakely) Johnson, Zion, Eden, Rowen, and Nora Hagen, and great granddaughter, Bella Blakely. Along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Doug was laughter, love and music. He was adventurous and loved to surprise each of us with midnight milkshakes, middle of the night trips to find a White Castle and watch a meteor shower, impromptu picnics to Old Man’s Cave, stereo cranked for an alarm clock, the list is endless. He was generous in every way, with his love, with his time, with his patience, and with his amazing hugs.
He always had a story to tell and a song to sing. He was an amazing listener and would drop anything and everything to help someone. He was a true gentleman, kind, humble, and gracious.
He filled our lives with music and our hearts with love. He will be missed dearly and loved forever.
